Another undone task? Is procrastination stealing your life, one delay at a time?

Full disclosure:
I’m a highly sensitive person with introverted tendencies and social anxiety.
I’m also a recovering chronic procrastinator—and I believe this quiet struggle is more serious than most people realize.

Let’s get real.
Procrastination isn’t just laziness. It’s not a joke.
It can cost you your job, your relationships, your peace of mind.
And yet… most professionals still call it a “bad habit.”
Really?

What if procrastination is an overlooked form of addiction?
Not to a substance—but to avoidance.
To numbing. To the illusion of “later.”
It’s sneaky. It shows up as busyness, perfectionism, people-pleasing, indecision.
And for many sensitive, introverted souls like us, it becomes a way to survive the overwhelm.

But here’s the truth:
When you’re constantly putting things off, you’re not just avoiding tasks.
You’re avoiding yourself.
Your power. Your potential. Your purpose.

I’ve been there. I still visit that place sometimes. But I’ve also learned this:

  • Awareness is step one.
  • Compassion is step two.
  • Tiny, consistent action is how you reclaim your life.

So ask yourself:

  • What am I really avoiding when I procrastinate?

  • Is it fear of failure…fear of judgment…or fear of being seen?

  • What’s one tiny step I can take—not to fix everything, but to simply show up for myself today?

  • What life could open up if I stopped hiding behind “not yet”?

Do you struggle with chronic procrastination? What helps you move forward when everything inside says “not now”?

If this resonated with you, someone you care about might need it too. Don’t wait—share it with them now. A few words at the right moment can make all the difference.

I’m laughing…I could have bet you money Cliff Harwin when you messaged me yesterday about this post “resonating” with me…what it would be about. 😉 Busted, of course…guilty as charge!! I’ll read it. I likely will never change, lolol….but I WILL read it. …..later.

Actually, I’m reading it NOW….lots of good points and actionable advice. “Small, consistent steps” and other things…..and the “whys” of it all…it really IS the way to “avoid the overwhelm”, not that that’s an excuse or reason to continue procrastinating. I do need to overcome this on “the hard things” that overwhelm (so easily overwhelmed) (did someone say home updates?… decisions on those projects?!! I’m an EXPERT “busy person” to avoid the tough stuff…sigh….)
