#HighlySensitivePeople #Introverts: Why chasing happiness is making us miserable!
We’re told to chase happiness like it’s some glittering prize waiting out there in the world. A bigger paycheck. A busier social life. A longer to-do list checked off.
But here’s the truth I wish someone told me years ago:
Happiness doesn’t live “out there.”
It lives inside. Quiet. Waiting. Whispering.
And for those of us who are highly sensitive or introverted, that whisper can easily get drowned out by the noise of everyone else’s idea of a good life.
That’s why sometimes the bravest thing you can do isn’t to add more, but to turn down the volume of the outside world long enough to hear yourself again.
Ask yourself:
-
What makes you feel lit up—not for applause, not for productivity, but just because?
-
What small passion of yours keeps resurfacing, no matter how many times you’ve brushed it aside?
-
If you had 30 minutes a day to be fully you, where would you spend it?
I’ve learned that joy often returns in small, almost ordinary ways: picking up a forgotten hobby, protecting time for your morning walk, or even letting yourself daydream like you did as a child.
And yes—who you surround yourself with matters too. Sit with people who carry light, not constant storm clouds. Notice how your energy shifts when you’re around them. That shift is no accident—it’s a clue.
You don’t need to hunt down happiness.
You need to give yourself permission to listen, follow the breadcrumbs, and trust that those tiny sparks are leading you somewhere brighter.
What really makes you happy? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.
If this resonated with you, someone you care about might need it too. Don’t wait—share it with them now. A few words at the right moment can make all the difference.
