#HighlySensitivePeople #Introverts: Should You Ignore That Feeling?
Have you ever been around someone and felt uncomfortable—but couldn’t explain why?
Or found yourself in a situation that looked good on the surface, yet something inside you said, “Something isn’t right.”
I’ve experienced this many times.
As highly sensitive people and introverts, we can pick up on subtle things that others may overlook. A change in someone’s tone. A feeling in the room. Something about a person or situation that we can’t quite put into words.
But here’s the problem:
We don’t always trust what we’re sensing.
I’ve certainly made that mistake.
I’ve talked myself out of my own uneasiness because ignoring it seemed easier. I didn’t have enough evidence. I didn’t want to offend someone. I didn’t want to appear overly sensitive. Sometimes, I simply wanted things to be convenient.
I’ve learned the hard way that constantly dismissing that inner feeling can be a mistake.
I’m not saying every gut feeling is right. Sometimes our past experiences, fears, or assumptions can influence what we feel.
But I’ve learned something important:
Don’t automatically dismiss your discomfort just because you can’t explain it.
Stop.
Pay attention.
Ask yourself, “What am I noticing? Why might I be feeling this way?”
You don’t have to make an immediate decision. You don’t have to accuse anyone of anything. And you don’t have to prove your feelings to someone else.
Sometimes, you simply need to give yourself permission to step back and observe.
Looking back over my life, some of my biggest mistakes happened when I went against what I instinctively felt.
Today, I try to listen more carefully.
Your sensitivity isn’t something you always need to overcome. Sometimes, it may be giving you information you haven’t learned how to put into words yet.
Have you ever had a strong gut feeling about a person or situation that turned out to be meaningful? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.
If this resonated with you, someone you care about might need it too. Don’t wait—share it with them now. A few words at the right moment can make all the difference.
