As a highly sensitive person, I sometimes feel frustrated that I’m not making progress in my life. Personal growth is a natural progression of life. How come so many of us resist something that makes us smarter to make a better life for ourselves?

Could it be that any kind of change, good or bad, upsets our normal routine that causes stress? Maybe we are addicted to feeling sorry for ourselves and feel better in this state of being? Perhaps feelings of hopelessness may feel less threatening than to take the actions and responsibility to make our lives better? (more…)

#HighlySensitivePeople: Is shyness something to overcome?

Shyness is a feeling of insecurity and extreme awkwardness around others. Who at some point in their lives hasn’t experienced this? It becomes a problem when it interferes with one’s day-to-day functioning. If shyness is a part of one’s being, it doesn’t have to be something that has to be overcome. It’s a trait that should be embraced and utilized.

Shyness isn’t some terrible obstacle. It’s not something that you cannot work with. I have many shy characteristics.  I refuse to see it as something to be ashamed of, it’s not a negative character trait. The world may see shyness in a poor light, but it shouldn’t affect the way we see ourselves. If we feel good about ourselves, who cares what anyone else thinks? (more…)

Highly Sensitive People: Are You Afraid Of Confrontation?

As a highly sensitive person with many introverted qualities, I know the difficulty in setting boundaries and asserting yourself in difficult situations. I have learned many lessons from the challenging times of my life. As a child, my late mother, would always tell me…”Speak up or be left behind”! I took her words to heart and realized  at a young age, I needed to confront, speak up, and take action for the things that were truly important to me. Highly Sensitive People: My Wife Had Emergency Brain Surgery! (Part 3)

My family and I want to thank you for your support! It continues to be a difficult time. My wife has good and bad days, but she's making progress. The physical therapist has made her last in-home visit. She suggested that we call the doctor to get a prescription for outpatient therapy. I'd like to expand on my last post about what happened before and after my wife had her surgery. Here's a recap: When it was time for my wife's surgery, the doctor and his assistant came in to see us. I asked them where my daughter and I could wait.
