#HighlySensitivePeople #Introverts: How much socialization do you need?

How Much Socializing Do You Really Need? The Answer Might Surprise You

Not all connection is nourishing. And not all solitude is isolation.

If you’re a highly sensitive person, introvert, or someone who struggles with social anxiety, you’ve probably wrestled with this question:

“How much socializing is enough?”

The world constantly tells us: “Get out more. Be more social. Say yes.”
But what if that one-size-fits-all advice is quietly wearing you down?

Yes—human connection is important. It impacts happiness, longevity, even our ability to handle stress. But here’s the twist:

It’s not how much you socialize—it’s who you connect with, and how it feels to your nervous system.

We need more than just “people.”
We need the right people—those who are kind, warm, understanding… and who don’t make us feel like we have to be someone we’re not.

Too much of the wrong energy drains us.
Too little of the right energy isolates us.

Here’s something radical:
You don’t owe anyone your presence—especially not out of guilt or obligation. You get to choose who you spend your time with.

  • You’re not selfish for needing space.
  •  You’re not broken for not enjoying big groups.
  • And you’re definitely not weird for wanting deep, soulful conversations over small talk.

Instead of forcing yourself into draining interactions, try this:

  • Do a people inventory. Who uplifts you? Who depletes you?
  • Set boundaries where needed—even with relatives.
  • Seek kindred spirits who inspire peace, not pressure.

Ask yourself: How much socializing makes me feel fulfilled, not fatigued?
That’s your real answer.

Let’s flip the script—from “How can I be more social?”
to: “How can I create connection that nourishes me?”

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you struggle with this balance?
