What are you afraid of? I’m afraid of many things. They include public speaking, filling out forms, taking tests, looking foolish, being in social situations where I don’t know anyone, having a helpless feeling where I feel that I’m not in control, and many other ones that are too numerous to mention.
Can you relate to any of my fears? Fear is a common emotion that’s certainly not limited to highly sensitive people, though we will experience this emotion more intensely. Everyone has their share of things that cause them high anxiety.
When you think about it, the word “control”or lack of it, causes many of our fears. We have more control over our lives than we think. I can ask for help to fill out forms. I can better prepare for taking tests and not put the pressure on myself to be “perfect.” I can not care about looking foolish, because most people are far more interested in their own lives. In fact, there’s a good chance they won’t even notice foolishness! I can ask people about themselves when I’m in a group of new people. Don’t people love to talk about themselves?
See, there’s nothing to be afraid of! We have more control over our lives than we think. Why don’t we spend more time enjoying and not care about what we are afraid of?
Do you have irrational or unjustifiable fears that keep you from living your best life? If so, what can you do about it? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.
