Do you take time out to have fun in your life? Do you engage in activities that re-charge your emotional and physical batteries? While we all need playtime, most of us have a little voice in our head that is chock full of excuses as to why we shouldn’t indulge ourselves.

#HighlySensitivePeople: Are You Brave Enough To Claim Your Independence?

Happy Independence Day! For my international readers, Independence Day is annually celebrated on July 4th in the United States. It’s the anniversary of our country’s Declaration of Independence from Great Britain in 1776. The early colonists in America felt they were being treated unfairly by the English, so they bravely took up arms and fought for their liberty and independence. On this day, patriotic displays and family events are organized throughout the United States.

This holiday always gets me thinking about what is means to be independent. Are you an independent person? By that I mean, are you free of unfair treatment by people who have power over you? It could be a spouse, a friend, a boss, co-workers, or possibly your kids. (more…)

#HighlySensitivePeople and/or Introverts: Do You Utilize This Natural Resource?

What is this natural highly sensitive person and/or introverted resource? It’s keen observation skills! Being the highly sensitive person/introvert that I am, I can attest that this can come very easy to us with a little practice. We take in everything around us, and being observant is the key to creativity.

Creativity is all around us, and each of us has the ability to be creative. This is a part of who we are, and it’s only a matter of tapping into it. Sometimes it comes easy and sometimes it doesn’t. If the latter is the case for you, it doesn’t have to be. All you need to do is train yourself to be creative. You’d be surprised that it can be as simple as practicing your powers of observation and becoming better aware of your surroundings. (more…)

#HighlySensitivePeople: A Good Response To “You’re So Quiet”!

I read a Miss Manners newspaper column about a man who was upset when people mentioned to him that he was so quiet. He said that he was not good at conversation and was frustrated, self-conscious, and embarrassed that he felt he had to defend himself. He asked Miss Manner how he should react.
