As highly sensitive people, it’s important for us to be aware of “energy vampires,” which are people who drain our energy and sap our joy. These are usually people with a consistently negative attitude and pessimistic outlook on life. They may be bringing you down, and more often than not, you may not even realize the harm being done.

Think about the people in your life. Do you have toxic people around you? Perhaps you know someone who belittles others, makes snide remarks, and passes it all off as “just joking.” Maybe you know people who are highly judgmental and thrive on constantly pointing out the negative side of every person and situation.  (more…)

#HighlySensitivePeople: Do You Blush?

Do you blush? I do! Very easily I may add. Any number of emotions and physical reactions can set it off. It’s embarrassing sometimes, but I’ve learned to live with it. My blushing can come at a moment’s notice. I can’t prepare for it, it’s a natural reaction for me. Here are some ways my blushing manifests itself:

  • When I feel overwhelmed. Feeling overwhelmed is a natural occurrence when you go above your emotional and physical limits. I use blushing as my natural barometer to take a break and rest. (more…)

#HighlySensitivePeople: Do You Have Trouble Staying Motivated?

Do you have trouble staying motivated? I do sometimes. Although this bothers me, I realize that it’s impossible to be “on” all the time. I start out energized and excited about a project, and soon after, I’m in the dumps having a pity party. Staying motivated isn’t easy! If it were, everybody would do it.

I bet you’ve had this experience too. It happens to us all. You may have felt good about a certain job or project when it began. You were filled with enthusiasm, but then you hit a few speed bumps, and your motivation waned. You may have fallen into self-doubt and decided to give up. #HighlySensitivePeople: Do You Ask For What You Want?

Our pets are pretty good at letting us know when their needs are not being met, but what about you? Do you ask for what you want? Or are you the type of person who feels that you can solve all of your problems yourself? Do you tend to assume that others can read your mind when you want something? As a highly sensitive person, I instinctively try to handle all situations myself and believe that others know what I’m feeling and wanting. .

Over the years, I’ve been working on releasing some of these self-defeating beliefs. After all, they never make the situation better and only place more stress on my already overactive nervous system. (more…)
