Some natural home remedies for HSPs

Through my work with highly sensitive people, I’ve discovered that many of us share an interest in natural medicine. Thus, I thought I’d pass along some natural home remedies that might be useful to HSPs. Below is list that I had clipped from an article by Jessica Girdwain in Woman’s Day magazine (April 2014).

  • Good for relieving anxiety: If you’re feeling stressed, put pressure on the point located between your thumb and index finger. Use the opposite thumb and forefinger to squeeze and release the muscle for thirty seconds.
  • Good for insomnia: Nutmeg is a spice that’s actually a mild sedative. Sprinkle 1/4 cup teaspoon into warm milk and sip before you go to sleep. (more…)

How can you improve your memory at any age?

As highly sensitive people, we love to learn and think deeply, so improving memory and maintaining our brain power for as long as possible should always be a priority! I recently read an article by Drs. Oz and Roisen on improving memory at any age. Below are their thoughts:

Brain scientists love to say the brain is “plastic,” which means it’s flexible and capable of growing new cells and making strong new connections between them, at any age. That means brain-friendly lifestyle changes can help ward off memory problems. Here are some lifestyle upgrades:

  • Enjoy plenty of produce, lean protein, good fats, 100 percent whole grains, and a little fat-free dairy, while steering clear of added sugars, syrups, trans and saturated fats and any grain that’s not 100 percent whole. (more…)

Are you living your purpose?

Are you living your purpose? This question is especially important to highly sensitive people. We need a “purpose”, regardless of what stage of life that we’re in. Our deep thinking capabilities compel us to ask ourselves this question and come up with answers. It’s essential that our lives have meaning.

Our purpose can take many forms. It could mean being a good parent, friend, spouse, son, daughter, etc. Having a meaningful way of earning a living is a common goal for us all. Volunteer work can make our lives more meaningful. Hobbies and pet ownership can make our lives joyful. Learning a new skill can be fulfilling and give us increased self-esteem. Perhaps it’s a combination of all of these. (more…)
